Day 1, continued: Onward to Zion

At Cameron, AZ we stop for gas and a stretch.  Cameron, at the edge of the Navajo Nation, is home to the historic Cameron Trading Post and several gas stations.

Construction zone Here we are stopped for road construction north of Cameron.  Scott is taking the opportunity to study the top of his tank.
This is the rest stop at Marble Canyon.   Nearby is Lee's Ferry, a popular point of departure for rafting down the Colorado through the Grand Canyon. Marble Canyon rest stop
marble_canyon_lineupa.jpg (32213 bytes) As is our custom, we very carefully line up our mounts at each stop for a "group photo."  Hey, Jim, can you pull up your Kaw about 3 or 4 more feet?
This rest stop is a state of the art desert facility -- no running water or vending machines, with composting toilets and waterless hand cleaner.  This rest stop is always spotlessly clean.  It includes a cozy shaded ramada with a view of the bridges over the Colorado River. Marble Canyon ramada
Jacob Lake, AZ -- gateway to the North Rim Here we are stopping for lunch at the Jacob Lake Inn.  They even saved our favorite table for us!
Our destination:  The Bumbleberry Motel in Springdale Utah, just west of Zion National Park.  The setting is pretty and the rooms are OK, but it's a fairly ordinary motel.  One of these days, if we can plan that far ahead, we'll book reservations at the Zion Lodge.
