A sure sign you've entered the High Desert portion of the Mojave Desert in Southern California is when you encounter a grove of Joshua trees. The spiny leaves are green in daylight, a pleasant contrast against the brown trunk. It reminds us that the desert is a living entity, not dead and barren as many believe. Peacocks are beautifully colorful birds, even with their tails lowered. This shot was taken at the LA County Arbouretum in Arcadia, CA. I wanted to learn to print color, so I took a course at Citrus Community College in Azuza, CA. All the shots on this page were class assignments. This one was the required time exposure. I set my camera on a tripod and opened the shutter for about 30 seconds to allow the lights from the amusement rides at the LA County Fair to paint this image which suggests UFO's to many who view it. My now-college-aged daughter, Nancy, when she was about five years old. What do you think of and what do you feel when you see this one?
